For all inclusive development, growth, modern day planning, the transparent, efficient, effective, responsive and low cost decision making systems are necessary. Such systems involve multi-disciplinary information that not only encourage people’s participation and ensure equitable development, but also take into account the sustainability of natural resources. The applications of the space technology and geo-informatics have contributed significantly to the socio-economic development.
The department of science and technology of the Government of Gujarat established Remote Sensing and Communaction Centre (RESECO) in 1997 which was renamed to ‘’BISAG’’ in 2003 with enhanced mandate with the aim to integrate the space technology and geo-informatics applications in developmental planning and management of resources.
Now, it has evolved into the ISO 9001:2008, ISO 27001:2005 and CMMI:[Level 5] certified institute and a centre of excellence wherein research and innovations are combined with the user requirements to emerge as a value-added services provider, a technology developer and as a facilitator for providing direct benefits of space technology and geo-informatics to the grass root level functionaries.
Over last 10 years, the institute has experienced extensive growth in the sphere of space and geo-informatics technologies. The objectives with which BISAG was established are manifested in the wide range of services it renders to almost all departments of the state.
Over the years, the institute has been enduring to expand its outreach to disseminate the use of the technologies at the grass root level. In the span of 10 years, BISAG has played multi-dimensional roles and achieved several milestones to emerge as an integral part.
